About - Gretchen Meltzer

Originally from Canton, Ohio, Gretchen graduated from Simmons College and took a job with The Four Seasons in Chicago where she began her hotel career at the front desk. She then joined the Ritz-Carlton, Boston Hotel team where she spent the next 10 years working her way up in the Catering Department. There was a very brief hiatus at a wholesale diamond company where Gretchen planned her first event, the diamond company’s 20th-anniversary trip for 18 company employees at a Dude Ranch in Montana. But Gretchen actually considers her very first event the wedding she planned for her older sister when she was 16! It was at her family home, modeled after the movie Father of the Bride, and convinced Gretchen that party planning was her future! That wedding, and the one she planned for her other sister, are two of Gretchen’s favorites, along with the wedding she planned for a client whose last name was Rudolph. That wedding was in December in the midst of a major snow storm. The groomsmen had to shovel the church stairs! The bride got her dream come true with, quite literally, a winter wonderland wedding! Gretchen learned to entertain with excitement and ease from her inspiration – her mother, Jeri.

What’s your favorite event you have ever attended and why:

My sisters’ weddings because I planned them with love and nothing made me happier to make them the weddings of their dreams.

What’s your favorite meal?

I could live off of hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Feed me baked brie with apricot jam and warm chocolate cookies with cold milk and I’m a happy camper!

Winter, summer, spring or fall?

Summer – No shoes required flip-flops RULE

Oceans or mountains?

Dogs or cats?

Dogs! I’m the proud mom of Dakota  who is a 160 pound Saint Bernard and also she is the best dog in the world. When we meet, you’ll see pictures of her.  It’s impossible for that not to happen.

New York City or Los Angeles?

New York, especially because no shopping would be necessary. I have a closet full of black.

Early Bird or night owl?

Night owl… who can get up early the morning after a fabulous event?

Traditional or modern?

A mixture of both. My icons are Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn and Lady Gaga. Truth!

Country or Rock n’ Roll?

Believe it or not I am both a little Country and a little Rock n‘ Roll
